Graduate Research Center

The GRC is located on the fifth floor of the Joseph P. Healey Library, Room 026 (the right corridor off the elevators) and is designed for graduate students, staff, and faculty. However, due to recent construction, the entrance to the GRC is from the fire door located to the right of the bay of elevators. GRC direct number is 617.287.5272.
Please Note: Students must be enrolled in a graduate program at the university to use this lab. Undergrad labs are available on the Upper Level of the Library.
The lab provides a quiet environment for writing and research. The lab contains Windows computers that are equipped with email, internet access, and various software that are listed below. There will always be a consultant available to provide some assistance during GRC hours of operation. Faculty who have questions concerning software availability on GRC computers should submit a request to computerlabs@umb.edu or fill out the online software request form.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
This section contains answers to commonly asked questions handled by our support staff.
Are there limitations to my use of the computer?
You can only run software that has been authorized by the IT department. If your professor has assigned a software package (for example, accompanying your textbook) that can't run on the lab machines, have your professor contact computerlabs@umb.edu.
We ask that you do not maliciously delete software nor change the configuration settings so that the machine will be working properly for the next user.
Although you can save to the desktop of the machine. Be warned that the next time someone logs off and onto the system your files will be lost. Therefore bring a flash drive or email yourself to save your file(s).
I don't know how to use a computer. Is there someone who can help me?
The IT department offers free workshops at the beginning of the semester on commonly used applications, such as MS Word or email.
