Gerontology

About Gerontology: Populations are aging worldwide. People are living longer and the number of older persons is growing rapidly. Gerontology is the study of the economic, physical, emotional, social, and practical effects of aging. The field of gerontology is broad and the demand for professionals is increasing. Students enjoy small classes in a supportive, personalized learning environment in one of the oldest departments of gerontology in the world.

Honoring our former gerontology department chair, journal editor, and mentor:
UMass Boston Gerontology has established the Frank Caro Scholarship for Social Justice in Aging, to increase the diversity of leaders in the field of aging studies and to support prospective doctoral students who are dedicated to prioritizing under-represented communities in their research and/or service.
